surgery

i'm 2 weeks into my 10 week term of surgery. it's 3pm on a Friday afternoon, and i'm at home - but i hafta go back in a bit. so far it hasn't been too crazy, but i think i've been lucky. actually, monday was long - started at 9am, went till 11pm. but it was fun.

it's really weird to see ppl getting cut up. and to see their insides on the outside. :0)

today was the best though. after i did a list of procedures with my surgeon, i came across a patient who was about to have a C-section. i got consent (from the patient, her husband, my supervisor, and the obstetrician - consent's a big deal), and i got to scrub in! i didn't get to do anything, but i saw the top of the baby's head while she was still inside the uterus. and i saw her being pulled out, all cute and small and blue. there was hardly any crying (though the dad teared up a lot), and it was over in a flash.

i can't wait for my obstetrics term next year!
