parents
okay, i'll be the first to admit i don't have the closest relationship with my parents. although right now, all is good (knock on wood), in that there is no hostility on any front. but i've never really felt comfortable telling my parents personal stuff.
for instance, i didn't tell my dad that i was interesting in doing medicine until my 4th year of engineering. and i don't think he thought i was serious about it. in turn, he didn't tell me he had a girlfriend until 3-4 yrs ago (he's been seeing her since i was in elementary school). and this is the stable parent-child relationship in my life.
my relationship with my mom is a whole other kettle of fish. and i won't really explore that much today. however i'll relay a conversation i just had with her on google talk.
the background:
i've been having pelvic and lower back pain, not dissimilar to menstrual pain. but it continued for a good 2, 3 weeks. though it caused a fair amount of discomfort, i didn't think much about it. but eventually, i started thinking, 'what if?' like, what if it was something serious, that will make me infertile? and what if i found out what it was right now, i could fix it?
i had a semi-difficult experience with getting in to see a doctor. the combination of GP shortages and private practices in Canberra doesn't paint a pretty picture.
anyway, this monday i had a pelvic ultrasound done. everything's okay.
my mom's perspective:
so on google talk i told my mom i had a pelvic ultrasound done. and her response was:
" what for? you should be ok, unless you had engaged in a lot of sexual activities and VD deseases."
lovely!! my mom thinks i'm a big time slut. :) and i was so taken aback by her response, i didn't even reply to it, and just skipped ahead in the conversation. maybe she was joking with me? maybe? i can't tell.
------------------------------------------------------
nothing much going on these days. just studying at home and getting really bored. i just hope i pass these exams and that stuff i learned earlier this year will magically come back to me in the exam. i enjoyed this year a lot, but i'd really hate to do it again.
i'm really looking forward to my trip Hong Kong. oh, and my mom wants me to go to Taiwan with her and Brent next year. all of a sudden there's all this Asian-ness entering my life. good thing too, i think my chinese skills have gone down the toilet since moving to Canberra.

was the comment typical mom-like, or just my mom-like? i dunno if i can picture other moms saying stuff like that, especially not Brian's mom.
