it's been a while. anyone who's reading this will know that i was home back in August - which was awesome. but i've been back in Australia for over a month now, and it's been an interesting time. i just got back from 4 days in a rural town called Dubbo where i was helping at an Expo to encourage healthy living and health care professions to kids from rural areas. (rural and Aboriginal issues are huge in Aussie!)
anyway, i wrote a massive email to my friend earlier, which pretty much sums up everything going on in my head. i figured i'd post it here, just so ppl know what's going on. :)

i feel like i've been all around the world lately. but in fact, i've just been back and forth within Australia. maybe it's because my head is spinning, i'm so confused about everything!! and we never managed to have the chat, where you were gonna help me decide all my life decisions. :)
i'm less keen on surgery... though still intrigued. i'm just not sure if i wanna sacrifice so much of my life for my job, no matter how interesting it might be. maybe gastroenterology? i'm still pretty interested in that stuff. paediatrics is fun. GPs have good lifestyles. haha, and i haven't even considered whether i can get my butt into the training programs. aughhh!!!
more pressing, i'm trying to figure out my electives placement. i've been offerred a spot in Kolkata, that i'm really interested in. for some reason, i have a desire to go to India, but i'm shit scared to travel there by myself. my mom said she might go with me for support - which would be awesome. so i guess we'll see. if i manage to go, then my trip home will be short (if it happens at all), which would suck - but i guess i've already been home once this year, so it'd be less painful.
and i get nervous about not dating anyone. i mean, knowing approximately when/if i have kids will impact my career choices (bringing us back to issue #1). and it's freaking me out with all these patients i see, who are younger than me and have a couple of kids already! or when i see a woman who's pregnant and in her early 30's, and hearing her risks for having a kid with Down Syndrome. and seeing kids who are sick or disabled, and how much stress/work it is for the parents.

so if anyone has suggestions for my life, feel free to email them to me. or funny jokes... i love receiving emails!
take care!

you will love india by the time you have to leave. you might hate it there the first few days. but if you get a chance to go, i say take it.
the life of a surgeon, as you know, is not easy, either for the surgeon him/herself, or his/her family. that's something i would keep in mind.
and it was great to see you while you were in town!
