far far away

it's been super long since i've written here last. it's been a busy 10 months.

right now i'm an intern based in Canberra, but am currently on secondment for 10 weeks. it's a general medical term in a rural hospital, which apparently means that i essential work in a nursing home.

actually, it's pretty interesting medicine. we don't get severely sick people (as they'd be transferred to a bigger hospital), but some of the clinical signs we get to see are pretty cool. i'd say about half of the patients have very audible heart murmurs, which is great b/c i have a hard time hearing them normally.

i've only been here for 2 weeks, but it's really changed my perspective about physicians training. i really enjoyed my gastroenterology term as a medical student, but after that, i just lost interest. everything seemed too specialized and so academic, that i didn't feel comfortable and was intimidated by all the details. but this is a general rotation, where you see common things commonly. i'm getting a better handle on things like heart failure and infective exacerbation of COPD.

anyhoo, i'm back in Canberra for the weekend, and should go get my errands done.

no super exciting news about me.
