snakes?

Since Burgmann is on the edge of a bush environment, please be aware that native snakes, some venomous, become active at this time of year.

They are mostly scared of humans and hide in the undergrowth, but if they don't notice you approach then they may be frightened and can bite. Please tread heavily to let them know you are approaching around areas such as the veggie garden.

AND, one of my classmates went for a bike ride around the lake last weekend. she said that she came across two snakes during her ride, and was so scared that after the second encounter, she called her roommate to pick her up. i thought this girl was pretty tough, so i asked why she was so scared, cuz when you're riding your peddles don't go all the way to the ground. she told me that the snakes were at knee-level, b/c they were on attack mode, "standing up", and ready to bite.

yikes!! i go for jog-walks to the lake. i better not come across a snake, i would have no idea what to do. i have enough of a problem dealing with all the bugs -- they keep buzzing by my ears, it freaks me out!

during orientation week in February we had an activity, and one of the questions was what to do with a snake bite of some suspected type. i thought it was really weird, but i guess it's part of the culture and common knowledge. i was pretty cluesless. O_o
